Edgbaston Head Groundsman Gary Barwell announced as 2020 Allett Creative Stripes Competition Judge
''I’ve been Head Groundsman at Edgbaston for 9 Years culminating in winning the IOG Groundsman of the year in 2013 and 2018 with 25 years experience in cricket. As a Deputy Head Groundsman at Trent Bridge, my work included preparing practice facilities for all first-class cricket and, during the World T20 in 2009, all the international teams. As Head Groundsman, I have prepared pitches for all domestic and international fixtures at Edgbaston Stadium. This has included the 2019 World cup including the semi-final two Champions Trophy tournaments, including the final in 2013, and numerous Test Matches including an Ashes Test in 2015, 2019. We were also the first ground to host a Day/Night Test Match in England in 2017. Preparation for this included travelling across the world to look at pitches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. I’ve seen previous years entries and been very impressed with people's ideas and hard work so I am looking forward to judging this year's competition''
Steve Robinson, Business Development Manager of Allett Mowers, said: “Edgbaston is one of the world’s most iconic cricket grounds and Gary is used to preparing world class pitches and going into every detail for a perfect playing surface so he will understand the time and commitment spent by our entrants to prepare their striped lawn and surfaces. We are delighted to announce Gary as this years creative stripes competition judge”.
